Leading independent distributor all3media international announces continued success for its long-running global hit Midsomer Murders, as the new 20th season secures key renewals around the world, alongside the launch of an extensive restoration programme and a host of promotional activity.  Midsomer is produced by Bentley Productions for ITV in the UK – under the care of executive producer Jonathan Fisher.

Now available for presale, the latest 20th season of Midsomer Murders has already been licenced by ABC (Australia), DR (Denmark), FTV Prima (Czech Republic), SVT (Sweden), VRT (Flemish Belgium), Sky (New Zealand), Acorn Media (US & English-speaking Canada), Knowledge Network (English-speaking Canada) and Société Radio-Canada (English & French-speaking Canada).

These acquisitions for season 20 add to further recent renewals for Midsomer Murders in territories such as Italy (LA 7), Portugal (Fox) and Italian-speaking Switzerland (RSI) for season 19 – as well as renewals for France TV and ZDF, Germany.

all3media international recently concluded an extensive restoration programme, partnering with Deluxe, on the remastering to ensure the drama is maintained at its highest possible physical standard for all to enjoy now and in the future. The process involved generous amounts of dedication and commitment, with every foot of film being assessed by hand for broken perforations and other residues in preparation for ultrasonic cleaning.

As an example of high quality British programming which continues to rise in global popularity, Midsomer Murders also features within the UK Government’s GREAT Britain campaign as part of their promotion of the British film and television industry overseas. The GREAT Campaign showcases the best of what the nation has to offer, with the aim of encouraging audiences to visit, study, invest in and do business with the UK.

International Trade Minister Mark Garnier said: “Midsomer Murders is an iconic British TV show which is loved all over the world and features in our GREAT Britain campaign promoting our film and television industry overseas. Successful British dramas help to make the UK a world leader in television production and our sales of TV exports go from strength-to-strength. Our programmes are some of the most recognisable and highly anticipated across the globe, so it’s no surprise that Midsomer Murders is in such demand and now fans from New Zealand to Italy will get the chance to watch the eagerly awaited 20th season.”

Now in its 20th year of production, Midsomer Murders launched a new approach to its social media profile this year – with distributor all3media international being tasked with building a global community of fans though a variety of initiatives – which included a live Facebook chat at the show’s official birthday party at the Monte Carlo TV Festival in June, as well as various cast press trips and Facebook specific engagement activities.

Engagement on the official Facebook site has increased by 839% during the first quarter of this year – with the site seeing 43.4 million impressions and a reach of 18 million. all3media International has been working with Canadian social expert Jumpwire on this campaign.

Midsomer Murders – known as Inspector Barnaby in many overseas territories - is noteworthy for amassing sales to over 200 territories across its broadcasting history, and is a top-rating primetime show for many nations including Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark and Australia.

Series 20 of the show stars Neil Dudgeon as DCI John Barnaby and Nick Hendrix (The Crown) as DS Jamie Winter. The new 6 x 2 hour season sees the duo investigating more murders and mysteries in the seemingly quaint, yet surprisingly deadly, English province.

Midsomer Murders’ new executive producer Jonathan Fisher commented, “We are thrilled at Midsomer’s continued success and extraordinary international appeal. Thanks to the outstanding work carried out by the team at all3media International, we are now able to engage with our loyal and dedicated fan base more than ever before. It is a real honour to be leading the series in its twentieth season, and we are particularly delighted to be featured as part of the UK Government’s GREAT Britain campaign.”

Louise Pedersen, CEO at all3media international, added, “We’re very pleased to see the huge success of Midsomer Murders continue as the 20th season heads around the world. The drama has sustained over the 20 years and built upon its position as a real must-watch for legions of fans globally, offering the absolute best in classic ‘whodunnit’ mysteries. Our restoration programme and related promotions demonstrate our ongoing commitment to ensuring that this fantastic drama is truly future-proofed for new generations of fans.”
