Daniel Libeskind is one of the world’s greatest living architects; he was the original winner of New York’s World Trade Centre rebuild competition for Ground Zero, and presently has projects ongoing around the world. Major commissions have included the Jewish Museum of Berlin and The Imperial War Museum North. His work transcends conventional architecture - he is a philosopher, musician and artist, yet also a self-confessed populist, keen to connect emotionally with the public at large. Tracing the life, influences and work of a startlingly original thinker, this programme explores the range of influences that shaped Libeskind’s early life, revisits the sites of some of his earliest memories and travels with Libeskind on an intensely personal journey to some of the locations that have most inspired his thinking. We learn how these buildings helped shape the world we live in today and discover how the modern world helped build them.
